As many of you know I am working on a manuscript that was gifted to me. It is the story of Sir David Callender Campbell and his wife Lady Ragnhild (Gregersen) I have been trying to come up with a title as I work on this amazing and true life story of two people whom I truly wish I could have known while they were still on this earth. I feel very honoured to be able to tell their story. I am also very blessed with all the aide I have received in learning more about these two people and their amazing lives. I have even been gifted with a few family photos from extended family members, as these two had no living children to carry on their story. I am thinking of sharing the story in a series of weekly blog posts. Perhaps as you all read along, between us all a proper title can be thought of. The posts will be in rough draft form as I am trying to get through the entire manuscript. A full edit will be done once everything has been converted over from a very old typed copy to the workable format. This is a long process and I want to share the story for it is truly amazing. Please let me know below or via private message if you would like to start reading this story via weekly blog posts. Thank you. Coming out later this month just in time for Samhain/Halloween. Here is a sneak peek about Angel in Stone. Do any of you know where this particular statue is located? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The wind howled as the lightning danced to the song of thunder. Rain poured from the dark clouds driving man and beast to seek what shelter they could. A lone man made his way carefully along the paths of the cemetery that he cared for. He knew he had to get back to the maintenance shed but his ability to see where he drove was hindered by the driving rain. The last thing he wanted was to drive off the path and over someone’s grave. Swearing, he stomped on the brakes as lightning struck the pavement in front of his truck. “Maybe just a little faster,” he muttered. As he followed the path around a slight bend he heard what sounded like the boom of a cannon off to his right. Slamming on the brakes once again, he looked around, eyes bulging. He inched the truck forward as he peered through the torrent of rain. Finally, he saw it. Off to his right. He stopped the truck and dropped his head to rest against the steering wheel. “Shit. Shit. Shit.” Raising his head for one last troubled look, he continued along the path, his current goal… safety. Lightning flashed in the sky as he drove away, throwing into stark relief the view the man had only glimpsed. A five foot angel statue lay upon the ground, her left wing torn from her body. She lay looking up at the heavens, her wing buried beneath the branch shorn from a nearby tree. Yay it's posted... here is the link for seeing and voting on my contest piece click HERE I am sorry that I did not get a blog post up back on Monday as I usually do. I was working on the following piece for a contest. As soon as they have accepted my submission I will post a link to the site for the contest. Let me know what you think of this flash fiction story, I hope you all enjoy it and have a safe and happy Fourth of July. The Fourth of July in Peabody, Kansas is always something to behold and it was the occasion we had all be waiting for. There is so much to see and do. From the parade, flea market, local dog show, horseshoe tournament, the all day carnival and best of all, the fireworks extravaganza. I had grown up in Washington listening to my mother reminisce about this wonderful event. Finally, I was going to get to witness it firsthand. Momma talked daddy into scheduling our trip back home around this holiday. I will admit, I agree with daddy, Kansas in July is insanely hot. I hung out with my cousins Dawn and Trish at the carnival. What fun that was! Then again, what twelve-year-old doesn't enjoy getting to spend the day eating fair food and going on carnival rides to their hearts content? It seemed everyone from the carnival goers, to the men and women working the rides, migrated in the same direction as the sun sank lower in the western sky. The fireworks were about to start and not one person there wanted to miss it. Huge bursts of colors exploded in the sky. All the colors of the rainbow were there. It was amazing to see them bursting in the sky in time to the good old down home country music that was playing. Fireworks extravaganza indeed! The melodic sound of the Star Spangled Banner played over the speakers. My momma tapped me on the shoulder then pointed off to the left. "Watch over there Ashleigh," the smile that lit her face filled my heart with joy. The music continued to play as a different type of fireworks exploded. These were not high in the air, but set up to create specific designs about twelve feet off the ground. 'Oohs' and 'Aahs' could be heard throughout the crowd, as the images came to life. The Liberty Bell, the Statue of Liberty and of course Old Glory herself lit up the night sky. "Awesome," sprang from my lips. I joined everyone around me in applauding the display. I had never seen anything so incredibly wonderful in all my years, before or since. Every time I recall that Fourth of July in Peabody, Kansas; my heart and soul fill with the joy and pride in the colors of my country… red, white and blue. I am proud to say, “I am an American.” I wanted to thank all of you that commented and messaged me about the image that you liked best in regards to the cover image for Angel in Stone.
It was a very close race at first between 1,2 and 4 then it was neck and neck for a while between 2 and 4. But in the end there can be only one like the saying was in the Highland series. And that one turned out to be #2 by 2 votes. lol Here is what the cover will look like... or very similar to this. :) |
